About Us
HISTORY
Park Slope Geriatric Day Center was established in 1983 as a freestanding, nonprofit, community-based agency to provide services to older adults who have “aged out” of traditional senior centers but want to stay active in their community.
OUR MISSION
...is to help older adults in our community with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias to maintain and/or improve their level of functioning so they can enjoy their later years.
We believe that human beings, regardless of age or degree of impairment, can benefit from continuing to participate in the life of a community where they are accepted and have opportunities to experience a sense of purpose and success. Our members are not pressured to be anyone they are not, and they are encouraged to be everything they can.
PARTNERSHIPS
PSGDC works in partnerships with other agencies and organizations to bring more attention to the needs of older people and especially those with Alzheimer's and other forms of demential. Our "Peace of Mind" package of services in cooperation with Senior Helpers makes it easy for busy caregivers to get the help they need. We co-produced a caregiver program with Bay Ridge Center. We're working with the Brooklyn Caregiver Resource Committee, Prospect Park Residence, Brooklyn Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center at SUNY Downstate, Bay Ridge Center, Prospect Park Residence, and Senior Helpers on a series of memory screenings in Brooklyn. Working together builds a stronger community, and we look forward to growing our network of partners.
